Sensoji (also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple) is a temple located in Asakusa, a central part of the Shitamachi. Shitamachi ("downtown") is the old town of Tokyo. One of the must see around town.

In middle of the temple ground was this huge altar which devotee buy their incense and deposit them here. The smoke from the altar is said to have beneficial powers.

A loving japanese couple, looking at each other's drawn lots, and deciphering what the lot says. Hopefully, it would be one that bodes goodwill, peace, health and prosperity for this beautiful pair of devotees.

Lots are drawn outside the temples, and it is common to see many couples drawing lots for themselves. If the lot is a bad one, it is said that the person can tie the lot around these lines to reverse their fortune.

Round the same giant altar, a pair of good friends gathered the smoke from the altar, and pat the smoke unto each other's head for blessing and protection.

Incense burnt at the stove. To buy an incense, many would take a piece of paper and write the wishes and prayers they may have. This is then passed to a counter at which they will pay for incense sticks, which, when lit and burnt in the altar, will bring their prayers to realisation.

Drinking from the water at the fountain in the temple. I guess the idea is that if you drink of the water, you will be blessed.

Along this stretch of the road leading to the Sensoji is a 100m length of shopping belt which has a long history. Droves of visitors and Japanese alike fills the street, leaving little walking space. Many things are on sale here, ranging from shoes, clothes, food, souvenoirs, footwear and tradition items.

A lone water tap in the park near the palace. This is classic 'water cooler' found in some place around town. Not too sure if the water from it is clean though. Nevertheless, it was an interesting subject for me. Particularly, I quite liked the shadow casted by the setting sun and the curves of the basin. Note also the blue skies reflected by the turning handle of the tap.

Tokyo Tower in its magnificence at night. The orange glowing tower can be easily identified from a distance in the city.

Fish Market in the Oeno area. Seafood sellers ply their trade along this heavily populated area. The seafood were interestingly varied and the entire place was full of energy.

Giant Octopus for sale at 1,200 Yen for a piece each. Here, you can find seafood of all sorts on sale.

In Ueno, the street scene is not unlike the one at sensoji. Restaurants, food stalls, clothings going at attractive prices here. Every now and then, you may see good carted into the shops are more and more people visit this place in the evening time.

Near Ueno park. Prayer tokens at a shrine. Written on these wooden plates are wishes and prayers written down by visitors and devotees alike for blessings and for wishes to come true.

A fascinated child looking on. The pancake making machine automates the imprinting of the shop's brand onto the top of the mini-pancake using a heated iron.

Disneyland Tokyo scene, a copper container which glimmer in the light, caught my attention. I like the warm colour and patterns beaten out of the metal.

A balcony featured in the Disneyland. Textured wall with bricks and plaster falling off. Reminds me of the old balcony found in some european cities.

On board the USS Columbia steamship. This steamship model (non sailing exhibit) is found in the DisneySea world of Tokyo Disneyland area. The interior of the funland was nicely done up and there were many themes within the vast area of the park.

It is winter time, and while the sun is out and it's warmer, a couple walked and sat together along the wooden platform for a nice chat while the seagulls bask themselves in the rather rarely warmth in this season.

A lone bird on a stilt near the sea. The sea wave continues to wash up the shore, never ending.

Seagulls, attention! Seagulls lined up towards the sun, basking in its warmth. It is windy here, and feathers ruffles up with each gust. The birds are hungry in the cold.

Close up of a duck. There are more seagulls than ducks around here, however, the beautiful coat which endows this beautiful creature is shown in this close up and I could not help but snap this scene.

Feeding of the 5 thousand. This kind gentleman took pains to feel the poor little creatures enduring the cold of the winter. The sky is overcast with clouds on this somewhat gloomy day. The kindness shown by this gentleman somehow made the day much lighter, brighter and cheerful.
