Tasmania, Australia (May 2005)

From 11 to 23 May 2005, we visited one of the southern-most part of Australia continent - Tasmania. "Tassie" as it is affectionately called, is a land apart – a place of wild and beautiful landscapes; friendly, welcoming people; a pleasant, temperate climate; wonderful wine and food; a rich history; and a relaxed island lifestyle.

During this trip, my Nikon D70 SLR Kit Lens (18-70mm f3.5-4.5) gave up on me and refused to focus properly. This caused much frustrations. Thankfully, Kok Whye had brought a heavy but solid 17-55mm f2.8 lens with him, and we used it for most part of the journey.

This is the route we took for the trip... Hobart, Port Arthur,
Sorell, Freycinet National Park, Bicheno, Launceston, Mole Creek, Cradle Moutains, Strahan and back to Hobart.

Jump for Joy! We are in Tasmania! Action shot of Wei and Pei frozen in mid air.. like the long shadow and the slanted horizon - gives a feeling of speed and freedom. Fluffy clouds!

On the top of Mount Wellington. Mt Wellington is a 30 minutes ride from Hobart. In the distance is the city of Hobart. This is a very windy place and with that, wind chill factor is high, so I am not staying out here for too long! :)

V for victory! Climbing on the rocks at the top of Mount Wellington. The ruggedness of the terrain calls for shot or two against the blue sky!

Setting sun casting long shadows on the tree just outside our accomodation in Hobart - Graham Court Apartments in North Hobart. It is very conveniently located near a supermarket where we get food. 2 minutes's drive only.

Standing on the harbour of Hobart, Mure Fish Market (http://www.mures.com.au/) Mures has two sections: the upper deck is a seafood restaurant while the lower deck is a cafeteria style bistro which we went, and it served mainly deep fried fish. You should try the Blue-eye trevella - yummy!

At the Hobart Harbour, near the Elizabeth Street Pier. Nice blue sea and sky. The marina is out of bounds to us, so this is the best we could go...

Taking in the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Garden's Japan Theme. Note the small little stone house ornament on the left centre - a common sight in Japanese gardens. Like the colors of the plants - red, orange, yellow and green complemented by blue sky and dark waters.

Fancy a cuppa in the cool of the day, sitting in the cafe, taking a break after a walk in the park? A nicely done cappucino (comes completed with the froth pattern) waiting just for you!

Roof of a cafe in the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Garden. I liked the lines presented and perspective of the canvas against the blue sky - "blue peeking through the canvas!".

Also at the cafe, we caught a view of the a beautiful bird perched on the barren branch of the tree next to the cafe (on 2nd floor). Yellow breasted bird but I am not sure what's its name though.

Two windows in a quiet and kinda abandoned backyard near Salamanca Market. Broken glass on the top one from a playful boy? A sense of isolation from the crowded market.

A nice little park in the middle of city and turning yellow in autumn, St David's Park provide solace from the maddening crowd nearby in Salamanca Market.

Performing with Didgeridoo and keyboard, this guy was producing pretty interesting music with his equipment, right in the middle of the road next to the market.
