This is a beautifully landscaped garden in the garden of the lord. Found in the imperial garden in Kyoto, it features a carefully planned garden which is designed to look good from all viewing angles from the main house.

Laterns found outside a shrine/temple in the heart of the city - near Shijo (if I remember correctly). The lights from each of the lanterns formed an interesting sight in the cool, slightly chilly evening.

The Himeji Castle. Regarded as one of the best castle in the region and even Japan, we visited it for a view of what an old castle of Japan might look like, and visit the interior of it too. We climbed all the way to the top, on the 6th floor and the view there was magnificient, abeit the small windows from the top floor.

It's a world of vending machine out here.You can find coffee, tea, juices, water, tidbits, cigarettes etc on sale from these machine literally 'littered' around the place... Brightly lit and colourful, these machines catch your attention each time you walk past them.

The waterfall feature found in the Ko-en (garden next to the himeji castle). Beautiful red leaves are forming as we approach full blown autumn foliage season. Slow shutter, 2 seconds under setting sun light.

External grounds of a temple place, where the pagodas and housing can be found. Bright red/orange paint against the blue sky forms a strong contrast.

Standing in the grounds, for alms. This person, dressed in black and a hat, stood there in the sun for a long time, but I did not see many approaching him/her to give the alms...

Colorful sweets on sale along the streets leading to the temple. Attractive colors and shapes, they were packaged to 'kill'... A certain hit for kids and adults alike... :)

Neatly stacked sweets in a box. It seemed that most Japanese are a lot of neat and tidy people with a tendency for cleanliness.

On the way down, I shoot this photo to illustrate how crowded the path to the temple was. Full of tourists and guides with many shops on both sides of the path, it can get quite 'un-nerving' trying to move down the never-ending path...

"Maiko" (15-20 year old girl) which are apprentices to geisha. She is on route to practice or training... This seemed to be a young performer, dressed in red.

Butterfly among the bright yellow Chrysanthemum flowers. It seemed to us that these particular flowers are very popular during this time in Japan.

Another sighting of 3 apprentice geishas or 'Maiko' on the pathway in Kyoto. This area seemed to be a popular place for them to appear...

A craftman working on a gold wire, forming names. You can also 'make a name for yourself' :p at a price... Using a plier and using his skillful hands, he produced the letters of the names with consistency and accuracy.

A man outside a temple building, blowing on a wind instrument and playing a series of tones. Round on his neck is a string support a box which reads 'bright-dark'. Donations can be made to this box by devotees/visitors.

Underexposed intentionally to capture the intricate design of the bell, this was hanging from near the edge of the temple roof, illuminated only by ambient light from the surroundings. Note the green colored oxidation of the copper on the bell.

Smoke from the altar is believed to have protective powers; a devotee cupping wisps of the smoke from the altar unto his head for protection...

In the same manner, a loving dad scoops a wisp of the smoke from the altar, and placed his hand on his son's head in hope of protecting his child from harm and for blessing.

A grey heron, perched on a stone in a garden. The Grey Heron is one of the biggest of the herons. It inhabits shallow water areas, where their long legs allow them to walk slowly, in order to be able to hunt the fish and crustaceans that cross their wading way .

Performing artists at a park, showing off his skills at making dices stack up. As he 'scoops' up the fours dices and shakes the cups, he is able to make these 4 dices stack up nicely at the end of his trick... He also juggles, plays with fire trick and is apt in many other cool moves.
