Kuwait & Dubai (2005 & 2006)

I visited Kuwait and Dubai for business travel. Took the Emirates airline and transit at Dubai (United Arab Emirates). Not many photos were taken because the weather there is quite hot (in excess of 38 degree celcius), plus I have got work to do. Dubai is quite modern and in rapid development. Buildings are springing up everywhere with nice architectural designs.

In comparison, Kuwait is in the stage of rebuilding and development, a little like what we were 5 to 10 years back then. Generally, the things in Kuwait are not cheap; a bowl of noodle soup costed me SGD$15, while a fast food is cheaper at about S$7. Most of the things you can get in Kuwait, you probably be able to get one in Singapore for a lower price.

I took the Kuwait Airways flight into Kuwait. The ticket is expensive, and service is not-that-great, in my opinion. Even my fellow Kuwaiti colleague feels the same.

This the Kuwait airport. The airport is not the best airport I have been and things can be a little messy; made worse by my blurness (haha...). Nevertheless, it is a good experience for avid travellers like me to travel in the middle eastern countries. :)

Designed by a Swedish architectural firm and opened in 1979, the Kuwait Towers have become Kuwait's main landmark. View from the restaurant Lenotre. The towers hold 4,500 cubic meters of water which then flows into the homes and businesses of Kuwait city.

A photo of the city with kuwait towers in the background. The dark strips in the blue sky is a result of dirt on the window where I took this photo from. Too bad, cannot open the window. Most buildings in the city are quite low-rise, and some building are under reconstruction and development.

This is Lenotre, a prestigious restaurant in the city. This restaurant serves interesting and pretty tasty food. But I can say that the food generally is not exactly cheap in Kuwait as compared to Singapore. Singapore, despite being a developed country, generally still enjoy relatively lower cost of living in terms of food and transportation.

Besides being a waterfront restaurant, you will also enjoy a view of the kuwait towers and view of the beach.

A night's out eating at one of the turkish food restaurant in the middle of summer heat. There were some fans fitted with water mist sprayers to keep the air slightly cooler. Liberation tower is in the distance.

A quick visit to the Marina hotel up along the coast. The view offers me a night scene of the Kuwait coast and city skylines. On Kuwait's beautiful Marina, facing the Arabian Sea, this brand new intimate boutique hotel offers a central location in the heart of the swank shopping district.

Kuwait Towers at night. The first tower is 140 meters tall and supports a water-holding sphere. The second tower is 180 meters tall. It also carries a restaurant and a cafeteria. The third tower has no spheres at all. It is used for lighting.

Next to my hotel (marriot kuwait) is the Arraya Shopping Mall. This mall is not croweded and offers branded goods and a handful of restaurants and cafes.
