Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic (May 2007)

Cesky Krumlov is a small city in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, best known for the fine architecture and art of the historic old town and Krumlov Castle. In particular, Krumlov Castle is unusually large for a town of Krumlov's size; within the Czech Republic it is second only to the Hradčany castle complex of Prague. Ever since it attained its status as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, improvement works have begun in this sleepy little cultural town.

On the train to Linz. We had to put the luggage in a seat's place, because there are no large luggage compartment onboard. Kinda paiseh to occupy a seat and waste it because of the two large luggages - and hence the expression on my face.

Flower in the pension's driveway. Yes, we have arrived at the pension. A pension is a kind of accomodation usually run on a small scale (kinda like homestay but the one we stay in has quite a few rooms). It is called Sebastian's Pension.

Time to change money from Euro to Czech Crowns. Here, due to urgency to change for makan, we unfortunately changes for a less than favourable exchange rate. :( But it was okay, cos the amount is not large. Pei was a little sad due to this but slowly the sadness went away with the sights that greeted us.

The Parish of Český Krumlov (Church of St. Vitus) was likely established by Peter I von Rosenberg shortly before 1317 A.D. It is the second most prominent landmark in Cesky, after the castle.

My first in Cesky consist of potato-like patty with herbs, pork ham, beet root (savoury), vinegared green chilli and red chilli. Quite nice!

This is near 54 Na Louzi Ulice (Kájovská No. 54). Two story corner house with painted Renaissance frontage belongs among the most interesting monuments of the historic centre of Český Krumlov. It is basically a late Gothic building which underwent a general reconstruction in Renaissance style in the third quarter of the 16th century.

In the middle of the square is a stone six-angled fountain that surrounds a Plague Column erected during 1714-1716 for the memory of the plague epidemic that struck the town during 1680-1682. Sculptural decoration shows mainly sculptures of anti-plague patrons (saints) and town protectors.

There is also a tree growing from the ground in the main square. I am not sure what this is supposed to be, but I thought I saw another one somewhere in Austria - Krems? too.

Remember the St Jost Church former site? This is the puppet musuem which uses the part of the site. Here, a tour guide giving a short introduction on the "Marionet" - a puppet with strings that a puppeteer can control from above.
