Singapore Garden Festival 2006

The Singapore Garden Festival 2006. Went on 23 Dec 2006 from 1pm to 5:30pm. There were many different style of floral and garden designs through out the exhibition halls. More and more visitor came in from 2pm onwards and taking picture became a little difficult. Need to queue up to visit some of the enclosures, even. :) All of these photos were taken hand-held, using a Nikon D70, 18-200mm DX VR2 Travel Lens @ ISO 1600 (no tripod cos need to travel light). I hope you will have good time viewing some of the photos taken here.

I like the curvy stands and the supporting pot which form an interesting sight to behold.

Do you find this interesting? Hanging pots of orchids in the ball above and the flooring are intentionally indented to create a sense of dimension.

This is the most popular exhibit and highly rate by the people. This is a pensioner's cottage, with an English setting.

Hammock closeup. Note the chilli plant growing just beside the hammock. If only you can pluck the "fruit" and eat it... So cool. But I doubt anyone would want to pluck the chilli and eat! haha.. :)

Known in Thailand as 'mon khwan' the "beds" in the background can be translated to the name "axe pillow", with references to it's triangular shape resembling the blade of an axe.
The triangular cushion has become an indispensable part of leisure life in a typical Thai home.

A web of "silky" threads and the patterns of artistic petal design lit by the lights reveal an intricate web-like effect in this photo.

Do you like this display? It's a rather special design consisting of many "botak" plants with a sprinkling of some flowers and cherries on the top of this "shrubs".... Interesting - some feel it special, others cannot understand it! :)

"For Queen and Country" - a dragon created out of various leaves, and flowers. Note the "floating" white roses on the left... That formed a rather interesting pattern in the air.

A lonely, rusted watering can among green mosses and leaves. The leaves have "overgrown" the abandoned watering can. "Remember the container that once watered you" saith the can to the plants around it.

National Parade of the Cacti. Rows and rows of cactus plant in this display. Reminds me of the cactus garden in Cameron Highlands where there were also a lot of cactus plants in rows.

Top-down view of the red cactus plants. An interesting pattern. Reminds me of snowflakes - different patterns star shaped, but red this time.

An expression of space by a Korea artist - cannot remember the full name, but there is a "young" in the name. Space does not need to be empty; it can be used to express others aspects of life.

Loved the shadows casted by the top sticks. The glittering powders on the floor suddenly picked up dynamicism as the shadow gave them the special "zoom" effect.

This particular exhibit was different - it was difficult to shoot as the exhibit was abstract, simple but I think there must something special from this display. A close look revealed a vertical shot - bright grass and red flowers against the dark, moody wall - which looked like grey, moody clouds in the dark, threatening sky.

This entry, by a phillipine artist, depicts the nativity scene. The use of the "front lawn" was good, but I felt the lawn could be smaller, and the use of the plastics stars on the trees made the exhibit look a little "cheap" and the bright lights on the left of the display (not in the photo) distracted viewers from the scene.

Visitors were not allowed to enter the exhibit. Blessed with a 18-200mm VR lens, I managed to zoom in onto the Nativity Scene in the "pavilion" across the lawn.

The clever use of complementary lighting as part of the exhibit made the experience much better.. I really liked the blue color emitted from this display.
